One of the highlights of this walk is your friendly guide who will regale you with local tails and entertain you for the entire time.
Your walk starts at Blackwater Bridge where the River Blackwater falls through a deep gorge into a narrow inlet off the 26-mile long Kenmare Bay. Looking upriver you can see where the water flows through a rib of rock, creating exciting white water rapids when in fullflow. From this point centuries of river erosion has formed a wide fertile valley that provides an excellent diversity of plant and animal life, presenting the curious explorer with the opportunity to experience a unique environment.
The mild climate and sheltered position of the Blackwater allows a variety of sub-tropical plants to flourish. You will discover tree ferns, gunnera in profusion, arbutus and many varieties of rhododendron growing, as well as an abundance of wildlife.
